We all share a passion for bikes, and all started on something different (probably). I was looking through some of my old pictures and came across my first bike and wondered if anyone else still has such a photo. I hope even the usually silent members would have a go at clicking the "Add image to post" button ! Perhaps add a date and some background ? This may have been done before, but here is my offering to start it off. My little bike was a home made "bitsa", bits a this and that, and long since gone. The AJS however is not only still around, but alive and well sitting in the shed. Photo dated from about 1970.

The bitsa looks well made
Is the AJS on the road currently - assume from the years of ownership you have lots of docs including the original buff log book?
The earliest photo I have with me and a bike is somewhere on the Forum - can’t remember where now

The bitsa had a scooter frame, I think a Mobylette engine and a Honda tank. Footrests were upside down handlebars off something. The AJS does indeed have the original log book and the receipt for £55 when my old Dad bought it as a second hand lump that no one wanted. It is known in the family as "Last Bugger Going" from the registration !

I do have a soft spot for the old bikes. My favourite thing about the AJS is in the summer, on a Sunday morning nipping out before breakfast to buy a paper at early-o clock. The neighbours get absolutely no warning that 650cc of angry is about to wake up. The SD would at least give a little whirr of the starter, not not that thing ! I have it set up for one kick and it is like the God of Thunder has just stood on a piece of Lego on the stairs !!! Happy days....get your entertainment where you can, that's what I say....

Mine was a 1972 PC50 found in my grandad’s shed in 1988.
There’s a pic somewhere. Had a grannie slicer on it too.

I smoked and 20 cigs was 3/9. I also liked a beer at 1/9 a pint gallon of 2 stroke 6/3 ( think ) had a slate in pub bottom of street and they knew our ages but turned blind eye and borrowed from older blokes at work.Wages rose frequently and although an apprentice often did piecework and worked overtime, soon had bit saved for a Starfire and me Dad paid rest, happy days I count the Starfire as my first bike and I’ll bung picture of that if I can find one
