Hi just purchased a 400 Super dream 1984 model.Few issues one it's a blue metallic colour but can't find the paint code or colour name..Second problem there's slight noise coming from bottom of engine and my mate reckons it a cam chain issue,is this coming plus finally I've cleaned carbs and checked coil but it struggles past 5000 revs without causing a flat spot? Any info on all 3 issues would be great to thanks Paul

noise from the bottom end is more likely balance chain than cam chain, hopefully just needs adjusting

Just looked at this old thread, Im sure nicks codes are right but I took a genuine 250NDB tank and a 400NC tank to get touch up paint, I assume mine have faded as they are definitely a different shade of candy red

The 400NC uses the same candy red Carl. It changed on the 400ND though. Thinking that your NDB set was a repainted set? This may be why there is confusion.
(Check CMSNL diagrams for back up and you’ll see it’s the same colour code R107CU).

I've heard mixed reviews about RS.
Best bet would be to try and gain a NOS side panel from somewhere, then have your painter mix up a match with it 'in hand'. These old colour codes are not recognised these days by the majority of automotive paint suppliers.

Just to throw my penny in the hat this is where I get paint beyondsurfacesolutions.co.uk/ the results can be seen in my thread Two bike restoration. I expect you will need a silver base prior to the blue and 1 litre is WAY too much for one bike. I used half a litre with thinner taking it to the litre, for both bikes.

Agree with the silver as a base coat. I think my prayer did the top coat with 500ml of top blue for all tinware. (cost of blue was about £75 for the 1/2 lt) if this helps.

If you are doing it yourself, the secret to using only a bit of paint is a miniature gravity feed gun. You can get these on ebay for £10.99 and you save that much on paint ! I have three. One for primer, one for base coat and the other only ever for clear lacquer. You can (and must) adjust the fan pattern, and use at very low pressure. Most important though is to practice on someone else's bike
