Had a similar issue with my 250 - found if I drained the carbs it then started - turn off the petrol tap just before you get home to run it dry

Are you new to Superdreams? They can be reluctant starters especially when left unused,or is this a new issue?

Yes only had it in summer starts find when not stood for long periods. I try turning petrol off and draining the carbs didn't make any difference

it might be worth trying it with no choke and the throttle open to see what happens

Superdreams I’ve had if left week or two fire up on one cylinder then kicks in on two after few seconds,as Buster suggests try less choke, once you get a “ method” that works it’ll become normal.

Yep, same as Dave, except with my 250 substitute 'seconds' with minutes. Insta-starts if just left a day or 3. Been like that for years. I suppose the carbs need a zillion passes through a sonic cleaner & maybe one day I'll get round to it, but I know it'll start eventually so I keep putting it off

As Dave and Ian it will be carbs mine were cleaned (twice in sonic tank ) one was still iffy on start up after say a week but lately been running carb cleaner through her not redex proper carb cleaner and the last time did the trick she fires up on two straight away now but there is always a knack to starting from proper cold my SD needs full choke and touch the button my cx needs full choke and about a ten mm twist on the throttle to fire if not holding on a bit no go but she runs on two straight away also

As all of the above , it's a bit like "they all do that sir" , not right but v common , need to learn what technique works best for your bike too to some extent , I couldn't get my GSX to start , found you must not touch the throttle then fires straight up .
No real reason a 40 year old bike shouldn't start straight up really but SDs do seem to like to start on one regardless !

Was it a GSX550 by any chance, I had the same
Agree, every classic, old bike I've ever owned has had its own quirks + the quirks of the marque, my 2003 BMW K1200 sounds like the gearbox is about to fallout but they all sound like that.

GSX750F but the fussiest starter I have had in 40+ years of bikes , absolutely fine as long as you keep away from the therottle but touch the throttle and it gets very upset - resulted in two missed MOTs !

Try a Velo single with manual ignition😂😂 Reckon all bikes especially older ones can need a “technique” to start them lol.
