Hi Simon, I agree with Joff, if you definitely want to respray it, I would source another tank and set of panels to repaint, original paintwork like your bike is hard to find, and the repro decals are not so good, if you did what I say you would have the best of both worlds, respray yours and it’s gone. Only my opinion, enjoy the Superdream it looks like you have found a really nice one, in the best colour btw and ignore any speed comments 😉

Hi carlthebandit250n, thanks very much for your feedback. As ridiculous as it sounds I'd not considered that perspective. I just assumed that getting it back to concours condition would be the way to go. Apart from the exhausts, which I'm told are not OEM (but at least there's 1 each side and not a horrible two into one Motad replacement) I'm fairly sure that all the other parts are genuine. Even the exhaust collector box looks like it's original, although it is in very good condition, which belies the bike's age. What about frame and other chassis parts? Should I strip and get them treated? Master cylinder is bubbling a bit under the paintwork too (which seems fairly common), so plan to either source another or strip/restore. Appreciate your input and expertise. Thanks!

I would agree with Carl it's very original and once that is gone it's gone give it a Good service oil ,filters ,plugs cam chain tension ,balance shaft chain tension ,tappets ,strip and service calliper may be paint it black again oil cables including speedo and rev counter . A good t-cut and polish on painted bits chain and sprockets are after market so should be ok if quite new and check date code on tyres so the 3 steps are service ,clean and ride Ps some on here will chuckle at my advice but I am a changed man honest just look at my thread a none SD winter project

I use auto glym super resin polish for paint and chrome ,you could use a mop polisher on the tank ok as decals are laqured over but not seat and side panels so by hand on those frame I just removed the tank and seat soak in bike clean leave to soak in then pressure wash and a dry of with air line and cover it in acf 50 and rub excess of with cloth I use motul shine and go on the clocks and indicators and wheels

Simon
Welcome to the forum. The bike looks great. I had a 250N in blue back in the 80’s and it didn’t look this good!!!
As a relatively new guy on here too, bringing a 400N back to its former glory, there are some very knowledgeable guys on here that can help out when needed, plus loads of other reference info. Good forum.
Good luck!
Dan

Thanks Dan. Probably looks better at a distance, but at 36 and a bit years old it's hardly surprising. I'm looking forward to getting her fettled and looking as original as possible. Ian, not sure what "braw" means, but assume that's a compliment Cheers Simon
