Hi all. Just a quick question. I have just aquired an sd which i have no reason to think has had any locks changed but the old gent i bought it from has lost the ignition key but he gave me a funny samll key with black plastic top and a 3 digit number on which fits the fuel cap. Could this be the ignition key just that it needs to be longer ie the cut part is right for the helmet and ignition lock but just needs cut on a longer blank to get further in if that makes sense.

The original ignition keys are indeed plastic topped with typically three numbers.....for example : 716
These keys (were originally) coded to the ignition and helmet (seat) lock. Any SD key will open the fuel tank lock as that one is not coded to the numbered keys.

The code is stamped into the barrel, you would need to strip the speedo assembly to get to it
On eBay.com there is a guy with lots of NOS keys
