Hi there. Here is my 1978 Honda CB400T which I have owned since 2002.Back in the mid 1980s I owned a blue 250 Dream which had a 2-1 Dunstall exhaust which was quite loud and made a lovely noise! I gave up on bikes a few years later and didn't own one for many years.I saw this 400 advertised and went to view it.The test ride revealed an alarming rattle from the engine but the rest of the. bike was in decent condition. It had 18000 miles on the clock. After a bit haggling I bought it for £220 and trailered it home. After taking the top half of the engine off it revealed one very loose piston.not good! The engine was taken out and placed in my kitchen where I stripped it down to reveal knackered bearings on on e side plus a badly marked crankshaft. Over the winter I managed to obtain a used crankshaft, replaced the bearings and rebuilt the engine.Put it all together thanks to the Haynes manual, painted it then put it. back in the bike. The big day arrived and. the fuel tank filled up,pressed the starter motor and.............NO START! Engine turned over but no starting. It turned out to be the CDI unit had died over the winter.I found a new one through Motorcycle Mechanics classifieds, fitted it and.,......SUCCESS this time! The bike fired up and thankfully ran very well.It came with a motad 2-1 exhaust which I changed for a two into two system with pattern downpipes and pattern collector box and two short silencers which have a nice tone and sound far better than the standard ones. The paint is a bit faded now but it still looks good I think :-) It has hardly been used the last few years but is now back on the road as it is now Mot and Tax excempt and this years insurance is only £56.Itbis currently on 23,000 miles.. I just need warm sunny weather to use it now as I'm a fair weather biker! Picture a few years ago at St Marys Loch near Selkirk

Hi & welcome along. Agree with Terry, nice to see another Dream on the forum, as more of a 70s bike fan I prefer the looks of the Dream, even though I've got 3 Superdreams . Seems the 400 CDIs give a few problems, quite a few of us have had them fail, including both my 400s, whereas the 250s just keep on going. Rex's speed shop manufacture a replacement.
