I've had a Rex's Speed Shop CDI on my 400N for a while & it's been fine. There's a number of others on here with them. It seems to be the 400s that fail, the 250s seem to keep going. I ran a 250 CDI on the 400N for about 18 months before I got the Rex unit. The advance curve is different, but I have to say didn't notice any difference in performance when it was fitted. I've kept it knowing it's a usable spare for any of my SDs

We've discussed this before but for our perhaps newer members this may be something to bear in mind. A few years ago I had a CDI that suddenly stopped working. It was on a 1978 kicker that had only covered around 8k from new when it happened. The CDI was stamped with an 'A'. I got two other replacements and interestingly they were also both duff. These were also 'A' stamped items. Trotsky kindly sent me his C stamped CDI (may have been D actually) to try and the bike sparked fine. My belief is that the A stamped items are probably best avoided as I understand the letter signals some kind of changes (improvements) within the box. Go for C and D stamped items would be my advice based on the experience I have had.

Bugger, can’t find the CDI I’ve been storing.Maybe stashed away in my brothers place but I did find a couple of coils and a generator amongst other things.
