Just out of interest.......how far apart are your SD frame / engine numbers? Assuming they are the originals.
Over the years mine have varied. Here are four examples (2nd & 3rd digits missed out for security reasons - they are not needed to illustrate the point).
1) Frame: 2**3249 Engine: 2**3271 (22 out) 2) Frame: 2**1733 Engine: 2**1741 (7 out) 3) Frame: 2**6756 Engine: 2**6758 (2 out) 4) Frame: 2**8409 Engine: 2**8416 (7 out)
I know of some examples where the engine and frame exactly match.
Where there is a difference, the engine number always seems to be higher than the frame number (in my experience).

The 2 bikes I have looked at in the last couple of weeks have both been 4 digits apart.
Engine number the higher on both. Sent from my GT-I8160 using Tapatalk 2

On RMM :
FRAME - 2**6033 ENGINE - 2**6038
5 OUT
Interestingly, my Yamaha XS400 is a 'matching numbers' bike:
FRAME - 2A2*100376 ENGINE - 2A*100376

Weird isn't it?
I wonder what the process was in the factory to have lead to this.

I believe the factory try and match up where they can but if you get a line stop then the next available lump gets put in its place.

I reckon honda in the 60's to late 80's couldn't get bikes out fast enough so it's obvious that some mismatch will occur on the production lines.
