Why thank you kindly! The day has been great so far and we’re off to Frankie and bennys later. Been crook for a while (3 months) with gall stone/bladder problems which was grim so it’s been a low/no fat diet for sometime so Im looking forward to a “blow out” tonight. On a separate note what does everyone think of Hondas new Monkey (125) I’m very tempted as a little runaround, the reviews are excellent so I’m gonna set up a test ride and go from there, the CB300 or 500 were the front runners but then the curved ball Monkey came into the frame, different as they are I only really bezz about locally or occasional commute these days so the 500 is probably overkill, therefore its more likely to be between the CB300R and the Monkey. Time and test rides will tell😀

Happy Birthday Ian. Read the MCN 250 test on the new Monkey in last weeks edition - they certainly enjoyed it (except on the motorway section )

Happy Birthday Ian. Read the MCN 250 test on the new Monkey in last weeks edition - they certainly enjoyed it (except on the motorway section ) Hi Ian The reviews have all been extremely positive except as you say for motorways which in fairness most 125’s don’t like. But it’s a really interesting little bike that by all accounts is bags of fun to ride for the most part, that said I’ve heard good things about the 300 which is probably the most versatile overall and would cope with short motorway jaunts. Both seem interesting little bikes which warrant further research. One or the other will end up in the stable to keep NNR company!

Have to say, the 300 would be my choice. The Monkey would be great for throwing in the back of a car or van if you had to go away on 4 wheels, but the 300 is more practical. That was in this weeks MCN 250, along with KTM 390 & it's Husqvarna equivalent. Needless to say they preferred the bigger faster bikes, but speed isn't everything & it would still be the Honda for me.

Agreed Ian but there is a part of me that wants that little Monkey in the garage! Overall though the 300R will probably edge it, maybe pick up a used Monkey in the future 👍

oops another late best wishes from me too Ian , FWIW I think the Monkey would be the most fun but the 300 the most practical - helpful stuff I thought I had a 125 Gorilla and it was great and even I could wheelie it - those possibly at over 6ft I was a little big for it - was ideal for going to look at/buy cars with too !

Perversely the insurance on the 300/500 is cheaper than the 125 Monkey, probably for that very reason. They are very nickable but as nice as they are I’m going to swerve it and test the 300 and the 500. Both are excellent bikes so it’s a win win!
