whats your opinion on dash cams, i know its not bike related, do you use one and have you saved money with your insurance.
leave your opinion and vote yes or no if they are worth having.

I think they are a good thing if used in relation to accidents, although I'm not keen on people filming other people & showing evidence to police of bad driving .
So yes I'm voting in favour

I don't have one myself but I think they are probably a good idea. The Police seem to regularly appeal for dash cam footage to help them with investigations and no doubt is very helpful in determining what actually happened in a particular incident which I am sure is very useful. In due course, I may get one but I'll be surprised if I remember to turn it on every journey!

Yes as long as it's not filming me doing something I shouldn't be doing.

We only have one in our Nissan Almera in Thailand, in one instance there was a guy on a scooter had a minor road rage (I think he did not like foreigners). On the one of the main roads I had indicated and pulled out into the centre lane. Anyway I saw this guy in the mirror he was not paying attention, I think he was not aware that I had moved into the lane until he closed to about 40m, as he was to busy looking as something at the other side of the road ( equivalent to 6 lane dual carraige-way, but with cars generally park in the inside lane. Anyway once he realized I was there, he over took me ( I was already up to speed). Anyway he looked back as he overtook, and decided to have a minor rant at the passenger side window, nothing to aggressive, but the guy was obviously not having a good day.. Pivoted the cam round to record him, and he appeared to discontinue his rant.
He did not know, that though the cam was recording, I did not have a clue how to work it, as we had just picked the car up from Nissan two days before. It was an extras that the wife negotiated from the garage. So over here very useful and I might get one in the UK as well.

this is something on my shopping list (you know stuff you mean to buy but never get round to) I live close to keighley in west yorks and sadly its a bit of a hotspot for insurance fraud crashes so it could be useful. I totally agree with others here that I’m not very up on the idea of them being used to spy on other road users. I personally wouldnt bother trying to get an insurance discount for having a dashcam because I’d probably forget to turn it on half the time...

I don't like stuff in the windscreen either, I do however have a dual front and rear camera system on my k1200, the recording unit sits in the top box and I just ignore it. The thing to remember about an onboard recording system is that in the event of a Police Stop, the camera can be confiscated and used as evidence against you. Can be useful www.youtube.com/watch?v=djQA_KKLNjo
