possibly something going on with the tyres. if the moulds are anything like rubber bush moulds then they are very expensive (I would think tyre moulds would be even dearer) often the customer is asked to put up a certain amount of money towards the mould/tooling and commit to buying a certain amount of the manufactured product. eventually you end up with a mould thats earned its money (customer has enough new parts for production and spares stock) so what do you do with it? two options 1 start manufacturing parts and marketing them yourself (you can undercut the OE prices because you already have all the gear nicely paid for) but this could well tee your original customer off or 2 sell the tooling on to another firm and they start making the product using the original tooling.
I hasten to add thats not for definite whats happening here but it could be a possibility
