they told my brother he needed new shocks for his car, till we got near it and could smell WD40,
that mechanic nearly ended up in hospital when he tried to get out of it.

I’ve heard many similar stories, I’ve always avoided them, built up a good relationship with a couple of local garages over time, really pleased I found local people I can trust.

They wanted to replace my mates brake pads when all he wanted was tyres, when he came back to pick up the car after tyres fitted they had his brakes all over the floor saying they were wore out, my mate told them it's only just gone through mot & demanded they put it all back together, they did & mate went back to the garage that did mot & they told him he was being ripped off the brakes had loads of life left & would last at least another 10,000 miles. I would never go there after that.

My local garage services my car, my wife’s car, my sons car and my father in laws car, they do the MOT’s and routine stuff like cam belts etc. It’s a good little earner for them and I think they know it. Their prices are very competitive (I do check!) and they always do whatever they can to fit me in quickly if there’s an emergency. I always pay them on the invoice and we have that mutual trust. If they screwed me over they’d lose a lot of business and I know they appreciate our support.

I have a similar local garage he's looked after mine and my sons cars for a lot of years it's just a shame he does'nt do bikes too, though he has just started stocking and fitting bike tyres, shame I had mine changed before he started

used them once in an emergency (just before xmas and I’d put new track rod ends on) to track up my steering, it was the fixed price that they said a rather hefty £70 odd as I recall and I could tell they were fishing for extra work on my old banger but they probably didnt pursue it too hard with me as they’d worked out I do most of my own car work and could pull them up if they tried to give me any flannel. totally in agreement with other comments here, I’d seek out a good local independant garage I know a couple in the skipton area that do a good job and dont rip people off on price and these are the people I use for jobs that require special tools or a ramp.

I confess to using them 3 years ago, they gave me a good price on tyres for my Kuga but when I traveled some distance to have them fitted I was not too polite with them when they told me they hadn’t got the tyres, they offered to come to my house and fit and balance them as a good will gesture,I accepted and all went well.
