It can be a bit overwhelming for me I concentrate on a small area at a time & work my way around over a period of time if you try to do it all in one day. The forks are the best for me I like doing those, the engine is very difficult in all its nooks & crannys but when done looks stunning it's surprising how 1 trip on wet roads makes it all go to £&IT unless fully dried off as soon as your home. That engine looks muck like mine did when I brought it 5 years ago, good luck getting it gleaming again Nick it's a lot of work but I know you will do it judging by your other work on your bikes. so.... I love it in small doses

Hate it but a necessary Evil I think in small to medium sessions it can be very pleasurable and rewarding....and there are so many ways to attempt it, by hand or by using tools / machines. If this bike had been left outside like it has been (in England) it would be toast. But there is no heavy corrosion in this one at all (apart from the already binned genuine exhaust system), at 6k miles on the dials it was probably in really nice condition when it was forgotten about. She is starting to shine like a new pin in certain areas already but clearly so much left to do. Lots of parts removed and safely stored. Also starting to build a nice collection of parts for her at home and over here, Mansell has been kind enough already to supply me a NOS model specific right grab rail.

The forks are the best for me I like doing those. Agree Rich, the forks can be very therapeutic......so much so that I started on the Nighthawk's tonight. The only blemish on this beautiful 1982 CB450SC was the typical alloy spot corrosion under the original factory finished clear lacquered fork sliders.

No doubt whatsoever that in order to do the engine casings 100% properly, they will have to come off. Of course this may be necessary anyway to facilitate essential maintenance - things under that clutch cover need to be checked after such a long lay off. Sometimes you work so hard on these casings (for me it is always by hand) and then you find a new old stock item....which of course is not restoration at all, well it is but easy 'bolt on' style.....but so what? Whatever we can do to replicate the beautiful original looks, that is what it is all about for me. Chances are, the engine covers on the silver hawk may be too far gone and cleaner ones or even nos ones will surface at reasonable prices like they have so many times before(below).......but in the meantime......we will see.....either way, the fun aspect is there for me and the joy of bringing something back little by little.

I hate it, I also hate it when you do get somthing polished up nice and then you can never get the other bits to look the same.
