Hi all Please have a look at my 1981 superdream photos attached. I bought this bike as a project to keep me occupied and my brain active as I am retired and had various BSA Bikes back in the 1960's and enjoyed the maintenance of the bikes. I have a dilemma as to sell or keep until it becomes a classic bike in 3 years time. I bought bike back in April it had 26318 miles on clock and had a MOT until next Jan. It started first press on starter and run Ok. But it was very uncared for was very dirty all over, and the seat had to be replaced . Under the seat the frame was very rusty and also exhaust system was rusted and holed. So I embarked on a full as possible restoration without having to remove engine. So fitted new seat & complete new Motad exhaust system. I have treated and painted any rust and given it a full service which was to replace or repair any parts that was neaded (the list of parts and service is too log to list) I had spent hundreds of hours in cleaning and polishing and fully servicing everything . I paid £1495 for bike and have spent about £900 on parts and items to carry out a complete service and adjustment of everything. So I would need to sell for £2395.00 to break even and buyer would get hundreds of hours work for free. Only thing left is a dent on top of tank which I have had a estimate of £350 to repair. So opinions please would I get a price to break even or will price increase if it becomes a classic bike in future. Best regards Tony Colchester Essex.

First the bike is already classed as a classic, assume you refer to being Historic class and free tax/no mot? Afraid in my opinion your not going to recoup your break even price, non standard exhaust and front mudguard fitted. But why not keep it and enjoy it the way it is? The more knowledgeable will be along later to give their opinions

I agree with Dave, keep it and enjoy it, why sell it to someone else to enjoy after that massive labour of love and money. keep it you will thank us for it if you do.

Always hard to recoup what you've spent out. You may just get back what you paid I'm afraid. That said you only need one buyer.
Twin pipes and a correct front mudguard would get you quite a bit more dollar.

Hi Tony, I think the replies above are very polite, unfortunately Superdream’s do not demand good resale values unless they are exceptional. To be completely honest and in my opinion you paid too much for the bike in the first instance. My valuation as it stands £1200-£1,500 maximum. Please don’t take offence it’s only my opinion but I do follow sales of Superdream’s regularly. I agree with other members keep it and enjoy it, what’s money anyway.

Engine and paint look good.
Let us know if you want a more critical appraisal and some genuine help / advice on how you could possibly try and get more money for her.

I think patience is the key prices for these bikes are rising all the time another couple of years could make a big difference
