If there is just one thing I ask of you fellow enthusiasts it's this...... Please please please check your used oil filters before tossing them away......making sure this little fella is not still attached to it. I must have had to buy at least a dozen of these over the years. Thank you.

I’m with you on that throwing away the bit you need, or worse still putting it somewhere safe...

Neither of my bikes had this attached when I gave the first oil change so I ordered the correct washer, when changing the filter the washer always stays stuck to the oil filter.

Will it potentially affect the engine in any shape or form without it or is it another example of Honda over engineering? (Do you reckon?)...

I think it makes no difference (I am no expert) as I say neither of my bikes had them fitted, but they are very cheap for the original part so if it should be there it's best it is just in case

They do seem to run okay without don't they...? But for the love of the bike we make sure they are back in situ.

This problem isn't limited to Superdreams. When I changed the filter on my wife's Ninja 250 a while back, I found exactly the same thing - no washer. The Ninja filter is a similar arrangement to the SD, but the filter's a bit bigger. I had a few SD washers in stock 'cos none of my SDs had one when I got them, and it fit the Ninja fine. Not sure about the genetic effects of mixing Kwacker & Honda parts though.....
