It's not just car keys of course, Now you see adverts for key less home entry systems..using your mobil phone to unlock the front door with Wi-Fi.... It's all going that direction,. Wi-Fi and the smart home. Lots of teething problems will happen has it is now with cars.

My old 1200 bandit had keyless ignition maybe 8 years ago. Was new and funky then (and I do that sort of thing for a living) so I reckoned it was a trick thing to do. Just showing off I suppose?
Can't stand the current trend for pointless electrickery in modern vehicles now. I Just don't see the point.
What's the problem with a proper mechanical ignition key, and a proper mechanical handbrake?
I'd like to make my own decision if the rain is heavy enough to require wipers, and having spent nearly a good half-century on this planet, I reckon I'm qualified enough to figure out that the night is drawing in, even with my diminishing eyesight! If I have a problem reaching for the headlight switch then I think I'll hang up my middle-aged open-backed driving gloves and badass Simpson helmet for good.
Sorry for the rant. 😁

I have to say I agree with the sentiment around all the electric gizmos but I have to admit if I ever swap my car I would be reluctant to go back to a mechanical brake
The electric one makes Hill starts idiot proof - but then again I may be getting lazy

people seem to be selective with there views on technology. my parents are still alive and do not know and why the items around them do what they do and i do not think they care.they just make life easier for them.all the tec is built in to the car all ready just removing the human side of pressing a button and turning the key.the manufacturer as no need for mechanical locks saves them money. humans evolve that's what we do if we did not you would not de reading this crap.one question how meney on this site would buy a tv that you need to get up to turn it on and change the channel

Technology is all well & good while it's working properly, but the more complex a thing becomes, the less economical it becomes to repair, thus leading us further into a wasteful throwaway society. Manufacturers are constantly developing more & more features to make our current tech appear outdated, even though most of them are things we don't actually need,- It's just a cynical means of making us buy newer versions of perfectly servicable things we already have.. Wonder why China has suddenly become a major world power? It's because the West has given them all the money for cheap consumer goods we should have been making at home, if we still had the means...

you are correct in what you say.but it's the consumer that dictates the market. and the market is changing with every generation and if your do not charge with the times you die.remember the British motorcycle industry. electronics are very reliable and more reliable than the mechanical components they run.we want cheap goods well the biggest cost in manufacturing is labour. automation is one way to reduce costs the next way is go were labour is cheap. example Dyson. are needs were different from are parents as the needs of are children and some of us grandchildren, we are turning in to are parents.

No doubt progress is important but what is in us that looks back?
Why do these kids want the old cars of the 90's and earlier over the new modern stuff? Not all of course - but a sizeable percentage of them.
Will this craze for nostalgia and what we had during yesteryear ever die?
