I bought a blue AGV Ago helmet in late 1976 from John Brown Wheels in Warwick paid I think £45 and received a free pair of red Barry Sheene racing gloves and a silk balaclava

Certainly were lol. Great helmet too,bit pricey at time but AGV one of better helmets in fact my brother was wearing a silver one when he had a serious “off” in 1979 and doctor commented on quality/fit of his helmet ( crash helmet lol ) and thought it had saved him from more serious injuries

Great story.
Forum member Loz had a bad accident with a drunk driver in a Vauxhall Viva in the late seventies (he has mentioned it a few times). His mother still has the damaged Kangol helmet in the loft as she believes it saved his life.

I wonder how well that helmet would "hold up" nowadays?
I'd imagine that without general sweat, daylight and wear-n-tear that it would be as good as new. (They keep telling us that plastics don't degrade?)
Helmet manufacturers tell us that the lifespan is 5 years or so. In motorsport use helmets are good for 10/15 years if still in good order. Is this because of supposed limited use?
I Can't imagine the basic shock absorbing design of a helmet hasn't changed too much in the last 30 years.
I'd be intrigued to see the test results of a 1980s high quality fibreglass NOS helmet compared to a current budget chinese item.

The AGV Ago was a fibreglass shell ( I think lol ) and if it’s been stored in it’s bag in the box I’d imagine it to be as good as when new?
