I would like to polish the engine casings on my SD I've tried using Solvol Autosol but I don't seem to be having that much success. I believe the casings were lacquered from new?? Which is the best way to remove the lacquer??. I have a bench grinder and was thinking of getting a buffing wheel for it. Is this the route to go?
Thanks for your answers

Could try wet and dry work your way to about 1000/1200 grade then buff it up on wheel Good luck

I’ve used scotchbrite wheels on my polishing machine on cases giving a good finish, different grades available.Don’t use a wire wheel or brush as it will scratch them.As suggested use differing grades of wet dry to remove lacquer and any scratches

Thanks for the tips. It looks like there's no easy way lol. I'll get the summers riding done and then this will be one of the jobs that can be done over the winter..

Elbow grease works best, the alloy is quite soft so wet and dry might leave a few scratches. I like using Astonish kitchen polish.
