I have read many UMG bike appraisals over the years and in turn have owned or ridden many of the same bikes too. Had I believed UMG I probably wouldn't have gone near any of them! If you neglect an otherwise perfectly reasonable machine and thrash it without sympathy you will get the results described, IMO. Self fulfilling?

my SDs were all work bikes, treated to oil and filter, chain and sprockets when they were due, but otherwise neglected and treated badly. NOT ONCE did any of them let me down and one of them ran to 72000 before being replaced. i still find it odd to see you guys restoring them but they were typical reliable hondas and it's good to see so many being looked after on here. i'm feeling quite emotional now....

"Awful styling", shouldn't have said "in my opinion"
That's an opinion and everyone's entitled to theirs.
Cheeky b*****d
In my opinion all new bikes look the same when you take the badges off.....plastic
oh no that's not an opinion, thats a fact 😁

thought Id wade in here, the first superdream I had any experience of was a silver 250n owned by our lad. every lambing time he put an old trials knobbly on the rear and brayed it around wet muddy fields checking sheep (its a wonder he didnt paint it green to match his wellies, all sheep sh*gg*ing jokes much appreciated). when I was old enough and had got my licence I regularly borrowed it and frankly abused it in the way of an impetuous youth. In 7 years of ownership I never once knew of this bike breaking down, it always fired up and went, our lads proudest boast was that he never even changed the oil in his time as owner. this is one of the reasons I chose a superdream ( alright, nighthawk if we are being pedantic) for my cafe racer project. oh and britpete, I can only guess you enjoy the celebate life?

Looks like most publications from 1978 to approx 2005 were on a mission to shoot the SD down no matter if it was factual info or not.......personal judgment always will win out in the end....the 'hardcore' biking fraternity of the time were also probably easily influenced, sucking up every word they read.
Still trying to work out why a London bike breaker put the phone down on me around this time shouting 'WE HAVE NO SUPERDREAM SPARES SO GO AWAY'. There was no need for it.....the bikes were a victim of their own success methinks. Some level of hate from these days still rears its ugly head on Facebook to this day.
