as my SD is just a pile of parts with loads of bits missing, i'm not even attempting a resto job. so i'm slowly gathering what i intend to use to get this thing on the road. i've been wondering about the front brakes and i'm thinking 400 front end with twin discs, or an upgrade to a bigger disc, modern caliper and a fork brace. any ideas?

You could look at XBR 500 Left caliper bracket, VF500F right caliper bracket. Calipers e.g. 27mm CB400NC (CB750/900F2C) 30mm XBR 500 Left (CB250NDD & US CB400/450 Hawk), VF500F Right. 32mm CBX750E L&R, (VF1000R) Discs e.g. from VF750 OR CB750F/CB900F2C), 256mm rather than 240mm. You would have to satisfy yourself of the set-up, I've one set made up, but not tried on the road as of yet.

dont know if this helps but I just bolted a cb450 nighthawk disc (larger diameter) to a cb 250rs wheel it fits perfectly and lines up in the forks with no problems. I’ll use the US spec caliper and mounting bracket and master cylinder eventually. these bits and bats can be found quite easily online a good place to try is bobinroc’s shop on ebay as bob and lisa wont pull your pants down on postage costs.
