Whoever designed the clocks on that bike needed firing, it's ugly I've often come across that upper instrument case as a NOS item and wondered what model it was for. Knew it was one of the Hawks as the part always carried the 413 as the middle number. So they stuck the idiot lights into the rev counter window and blanked off the actual idiot lights in the middle strip? Very odd but in 1977 I suppose it was designed to make the model above it look more attractive......with a 'flashy rev counter'.

It is a strange old world, innit?
In 1977 this bike was probably deemed very uncool - lack of lecky start, rev counter and spoked rims rather than comstars and a drum front brake.
But in modern times, these features are desired......a Cafe Racer boys Dream......literally.

Yes Nick but the speed freaks among us would have gone for the lighter thus quicker base model and better still in silver

I really like the high handle bars on American spec bikes yes Pete my mates 400/4 is a rare 77 US spec with high bars and it is really nice to ride not overly high but just nice

just bought a 450 nighthawk myself (1986 model) so a bit newer, and sadly a lot rougher. the intention for mine is to go down the cafe racer route so that hopefully I get the best of both worlds ie old school looks and style with superdream reliability and handling.

I'd give it garage-space.

Yet another base model CB400T has come up. A cleaner example this time. i now this I like I’d be happy just to have this as nice local run-around bike
