Popped down to the village post office and there I met a bloke walking towards a blue 1980 250 SD. So naturally I said hi commenting on his full frontal plain matt white fairing, he said it was off a Suzuki but he made it fit, the bike was originally silver according to log book. "Didn't you like silver?" I asked "done before I had it" he has had the bike since 1995. "Crash damage?" he thought not as no other evidence "might have just swapped the coloured bits with a mate who preferred silver"
He uses the bike most days and has only ever done basic maintenance , chain, oil, brakes "nothing ever goes wrong". I noted the miles, 67,400. "Are you on the forum?" I asked, he looked at me with a mixture of concern for my mental condition and suspicion "not on the internet" he replied. Later he rode passed, the engine sounded smooth and smokeless, he waved. I wondered how many SD's out there just going about their business.

Last year in TT week me and Ian spotted a German SD which had come two up to watch the bikes it was a bit rough but it had made it from Germany so it must have been reliable

Nice one mike, it would be good to know the amount of these bikes left on the UK roads there are probably more than we think, if you look at the DVLA website it states that there are around 10 left so I think that number is way out I bet there are over a thousand on the road. Long live the Superdream
