I have sealed the weeping petrol tank with fibreglass & filler I left a bit of petrol in overnight to make sure it has worked & it has so off to the petrol station to refill & I can use the bike again now, I will wait for better weather to finish off the repair & paint as far to cold but I'm hoping to get a few more years out of the tank yet fingers crossed it was really cold in the few miles to petrol station so straight home to warm up

Keep an eye on it Rich ,I know fibre glass was fine with seventies petrol but I'm not sure if ethanol affects it .I'd give it a few weeks before repainting

Will do Terry Two years ago I had a leak on the inside of tank at the bottom & I used fibreglass & it has kept it sealed so I'm pretty confident it will last fingers crossed.

It's a pity these petrol tanks are struggling after nealy 40 years, I suppose no one thought there would be a few old duffers still In love with the Superdream. That side panel has held up well Nick maybe plastic petrol tanks are the way forward, although in a few years petrol will be a thing of the past when electricity takes over.

petrol will be a thing of the past when electricity takes over. What an utterly disturbing notion.
I'm hoping petrol will still be available in some medium or other. After my lifetime I won't care, we can go all electric.........but I'd like to hear these engine's sound until the day I pop my clogs.

Odd that a silver tank should corrode in that way mind.
Does titanium actually corrode? Can't be a factory original paint job..

The red one had a bit of corrosion which was spotted when it last had a paint job (2008), we had it braised in a local radiator repair workshop. It never leaked before or after that.

terryc "another weapon in our arsenal" Sure most are familiar with these, but thought I would post pics anyway.
They have been successful for me on various projects .

I've used that on radiators but never had the chance to try on a petrol tank

I've used it on an aluminium tank with some success, the first attempt failed mainly because I don't think I cleaned the area properly, on the 2nd attempt I backfilled the inside of the tank, probably not possible on an SD tank unless you have tiny hands
