Good afternoon,
I had a puncture while out on the Bandit yesterday, called the AA and they fixed it with a plug, the mushroom type.
Question is, do I replace the tyre that has only done about 400 Miles, or do I run it as it is, puncture was virtually central, and in one of the treads.
Opinions please.
Cheers,
Fordy

I'm suprised that the AA didn't tell you. Would have thought that they would tell you if it was temporary or permanent.

You might be safe on any colour other than silver

I would edge on the safe. Side especially if it's the blue or red one pretty nippy those 1200 bandits it wouldn't matter if it's a silver one not enough 🏇

On a serious note I would never repair a tyre on my Fireblade but on my SD I would chance it because I ride it with Ian and Gill and they are pretty steady

Hope you didn't miss the Rugby 'cos of the puncture Andy! Mind you, maybe it would be better if you had, Gill still hasn't recovered from watching England's defeat. On the puncture, my first thought was fit a tube as belt & braces, but then I thought don't those mushroom things project inside the tyre, in which case might they interfere with each other? I'm sure a decent tyre shop would advise you.

I would ring AA & if they say it ok then I would leave it as it is my mate had a plug fitted & it was a pernamant repair done in a motorcycle shop & supposed to be fine.

a plug repair is only temporary. take it to a tyre dealer and the plug will be removed and they will replace it with a permanent vulcanised patch/plug.

Dave Hagen never fixes a tyre always a new one and when I was in Wales on my blade I got a puncture and the bike shop there would not repair the rear tyre even though it was only three weeks old!

Take it to a decent tyre depot and have it plugged properly with the tyre off the rim,it is not illegal to do as som tyre places claim and there are EU parameters set for what can and can’t be plugged,if it’s near centre that’s fine.Don’t put a tube in it,I’ve had tyres plugged on many tyres even a Fireblade. The plug can’t come out once it’s put in properly if it could they wouldn’t be allowed to do it

There you have it Andy lots of different advice, I just find it strange the AA did not inform you if it is a proper repair or a temporary one !
