Maybe it's a mid-life thing.......but I really fancy getting hold of a Jeep Wrangler, ideally a 97-06 model.
Anyone ever had one?

Never owned a Defender but had a Series 2A and series 3 , very basic , slow , use a lot of fuel , noisy but fun , chassis rust is a big downside one of mine had a galvanised chassis which improved things . Defender ownership seems a bit fraught to me expensive to buy , possible complicated diesel issues plus the theft epidemic ? Fancied a Land Rover "Lightweight"

You do see a some wealthy folk around Stratford who appear to have jumped on the bandwagon of buying one of the last of the defenders probably as an 'investment' - most of them appear to be SWB and fully kitted out with roof attachments and ladder, smart wheels etc etc. It's unlikely IMHO that these 'luvvies' will ever take the thing anywhere near rough ground. Probably looking at 40 - 50k for such an example. To me, the Jeep is as iconic but at a much reduced price, if this is the kind of vehicle you are after.

Yeah I think so. I’m pretty sure Mahindra made a Jeep in the nineties called an Indian. Had a Peugeot diesel lump I think.

I know of three people who have had jeeps and the biggest problem has always been getting parts and crappy interias as far as Land Rovers go there is no bigger nut than me 3 classic range rovers and to disco's get one of each at mo and they are 50 years old between them but I would NEVER have a defender I suggest you have a go in one and you will see what I mean a mate of mine spent 37k on one with out trying it on a long run first and he hates it and is getting rid in a couple of months just my opinion of course Nick Ps I've had my classic for nearly 17 years and it's heading to 200k and it never lets me down and I can fix it if it does so simple
