So are the ice roads open at the moment? Yes pete all open now, in fact they were seeking drivers for yellowknife diamond mine runs first week in january. Usually lasts until mid march up there. One, nice point to note is the ferrys are all free to use, when the ice goes of course lol

Looks a bit chilly Russ I bet you have to wrap up if taking a bike out Very valid point, with what will seem a strange answer lol. I believe saskatchewan is one of the most inland places on earth, and the sunniest province in canada. Despite having around 100, 000 lakes the air is eerily dry. So much so the cold is not representative to what you would aticipate give the numbers, it doesnt have the bite as a damp wet cold. Therefore, canadians are very active, all seasons. They convert running tracks or parts of lakes into smooth skating rinks etc. The toy to have at present though is a snow mobile. They like em souped up too with hyabusa engines etc and you sometimes see them running along the ditches on the highways jumping over bumps and overtaking you ! They dont put salt down here as it only works in a small temp range, which is good for preservation but can be hairy at times, especially around juntions stop lights etc. So very, very few will dare taking a bike out....me included !!

It makes you laugh when here in the Isle of Man when we get any more than a inch of snow we come to a stand still and you see what they cope with in Canada on a daily basis
