I needed HP to buy my first bike my mum refused point blank to sign for it so I made sure she overheard me negotiating with a mate for a C15 with very dodgy brakes he wanted £75 I knocked him down to £40 on account of those terrible brakes .Next day my Mum says I've changed my mind if you're going to have a bike anyway I'd rather you got one from a dealer, result ,good job it worked though as the C15 was'nt for sale

Had no issue when I told my parents was going to get a bike - they were time providing it was a small one - got a cheap C90
Bought it about a week after I left school I think
No chance of HP had to save up and pay cash - in those days I worked for a market trader - Saturdays manning the stall on Blyth Market - one a month on a Sunday doing a buying trip with the boss to Newcastle Under Lyme and 2 shifts after school a week
Year later bought the H100 from my earnings from a summer job when I was a student working behind a bar

I didn't get into riding till I was in my early 20s because I didn't have the money till then, my old man was a biker and I grew up around bikes as a young child before he had to buy a car and ditch riding bikes for a while because of cost. One of the proudest moments of my dad's life was seeing me pull up on a bike, he was smiling from ear to ear.

My parents didn't have a problem with me getting a bike either. I already had an apprenticeship lined up before I left school, but it was the other side of town so I'd have to get the first bus into town then change to another for the rest of the 15 mile journey, then a 10 minute walk to clock in. The bus times just didn't work for this. I bought a Lambretta LD150 for £15 with money saved up from my Saturday job delivering booze for the local off license on a push bike with an enormous basket on the front - can't imagine you could deliver booze at 15 these days! I went to school on it a few times when I was 16, but as soon as I started work I realised it wasn't up to the journey, so sold it to a mate & bought a Tiger Cub.
