I’ve noticed the last couple of times I’ve been out on the bike that the revs aren’t dropping until the bike is sat stationary, approaching junctions and traffic lights etc even with the clutch pulled in for while the revs are sitting about 2800 until a few seconds later when then they will drop to about 1000 rpm I am physically winding the throttle back so it’s deffo not sticking If I adjust the tick over lower the bike then won’t idle when the revs do eventually drop Anything I can do or try ?

Seems a common problem , a few carb cleans , ideally using ultra sonic tank seems to cure it .

I had the same problem, i set the tick over so it was just on the verge of stalling but i kept it reving when stationary, after a week or so after i put miles on it, it seemed to of cleared the problem, i guess it was a blockage somewhere, bojers answer is of course the best thing you can do as the whole carbs get totaly cleaned out.

I was hoping it would cure itself , next step might be to get then ultrasonic cleaned then

Mine did that a few years age & I brought a ultrasonic cleaner & stripped them right down as the cleaner was a small one & then had carbs balanced & it's been running great since

It often the case that there`s a blockage on the slow jet on one of the carbs so that the engine is only running on one cylinder on tickover, so you adjust up the throttle stop to make it tickover at the right revs. The problem is that the throttle is open at tickover more than it should be to compensate for it only running on one cylinder then when the engine is warmed up and been running at higher revs it cuts in onto both pots (usually around 1500-2000 revs) and then when the throttle is closed it takes a while to drop the revs, it will eventually, as it drops back to one cylinder.
These bikes tick over one one cylinder quite happily and it can be hard to tell if they are ticking over on one or two, but if you open the throttle slowly you can usually hear and feel when they come on to both cylinders at around 1500-2000 revs as they change from using the slow jet to the primary main jet and fuel starts to flow normally.
It often takes two or three goes in the ultrasonic cleaner to get them clean and running ok again after they`ve been stood for years with old petrol left in them.
Another cause could be an air leak around the rubber inlet manifolds they get hard with age and sometimes don`t nip up properly when the clips are tightened, they can also perish with age and crack and leak air.
