Hi Guys, I moved my much loved Superdream (the one in the picture) back up to the yard (the yard in the picture) for the summer after it being in storage in the upstairs bedroom of my house for the winter hibernating. I remember having the keys a few days later when I sold my Kawasaki GT550 to a guy from Northern Ireland. Today the weather was beautiful and sunny and I went up to the yard with the intention of checking the bike over and taking it out for a spin, but the keys were not in the locker where I though I had left them. I don't have to worry about anyone robbing the keys with the intention of later robbing the bike as I know everyone who has access to the yard many years and they are all sound. I don't have a clue where I left the keys and I have searched through mountains of clutter and given up. There is a small chance I accidently gave them to the guy I sold the Kawasaki to or maybe they were all on the same bunch, I rang him a few times today but have no got through yet. If he does not have them than that's probably my last chance exhausted. Can anyone please advise me where do I go from here to get a new key cut, can a key be cut by a garage or locksmith if I supply the chassis number ?

I'm not sure if keys could be cut from the chassis number but I suspect that it would be easier to replace the lock barrel with a new one, a quick and easy job.

Hi Scania.
Not a chance getting replacement keys from a chassis on an old Honda like these.
But it not the end of the world.
A new ignition switch and helmet lock will see you right.

I thought you were flogging this much loved SuperDream?
If you buy the proper Honda helmet lock off Silvers or CMSNL you will also get 2 correct Honda keys. It's then fairly easy to rekey the ignition lock to suit the new keys. Any Honda key of the period will fit the fuel cap. You can do it the other way around and buy a pattern or proper Honda ignition switch, but the helmet locks are a lot more difficult to rekey....

Thanks for advice guys. can anyone further advise me is it possible to unplug the ignition connector from the back of the ihnition unit without having to remove the clocks or ignition unit, and thereby temporarily fit a replacement ignition unit just to test it out before stripping down things?

Pretty sure you can do this but think you'll find it awkward unplugging the connector while clocks in place, only 2 bolts hold clocks on so not big job

Thanks for advice guys. can anyone further advise me is it possible to unplug the ignition connector from the back of the ihnition unit without having to remove the clocks or ignition unit, and thereby temporarily fit a replacement ignition unit just to test it out before stripping down things? The ignition switch is plugged in within the headlamp shell, so you need to get the headlight out and get in there to unplug it.
Then undo the two bolts holding the clocks in place. Then undo the four screws which secure the upper and lower meter cases. Then you will see that the ignition switch is held in situ within the upper case with two more bolts. Undo those and then the ignition switch will be free.

Btw - quickest way if you just want to just test another ignition switch and not actually remove / fit.
Do step one above and simply plug the new ignition in from the front on the headlamp shell.

Thought he might be a bit hung-over this morning- couldn't figure out whether he was p***sed last night or just the usual zaney-ness...
Scania- what are you actually trying to do here- do you have an ignition switch you are wanting to try? Peeps are guessing!

I'd had a few shants but I wasn't really peed up - was just making out I was.
No sore head today - working really hard on my disso - it has to be in on the 27th and I am beginning to panic now.

And Scania - are you no longer flogging your 400?
Questions questions.
