Well, after the sad departure of my SD last week, my Bandit 650 also went today, so I am now officially bike-less for the first time in 5 yrs I think it's fair to say that, given how little free time I have lately, and hence bugger-all time to ride, I was due a bit of a hiatus from two-wheeled ownership. Although thoroughly enjoyable and therapeutic, polishing a bike more than riding it is no good (apparently, according to the boss). However, much to the boss' displeasure, that hiatus lasted all of a few hours... A friend of a friend of a friend phoned me this afternoon and put me in touch with a friend who had a low-mileage W650 that he was thinking of selling. Well, he's done his thinking, and now has a deposit in his hand! The boss did her nut in when I informed her of this fact... As they say, if you're not living life on the edge, you're taking up too much space As some of my friends here may well know, I used to have a W650 from new but came a cropper on it sadly, and have wanted another ever since. But, having looked for another on-and-off for a couple of years, I got sick of looking at overpriced tat. And then I got the call on this one today totally out of the blue! I call it fate - my good lady wife calls it me "taking the b100dy p1$$"... And that's before I mentioned to her that a good friend of mine from school got in touch with me last week to say he has a CB550 in boxes that he wants to offload cheap... I know I shouldn't, but...

Love the quirky W650 and W800- as it happens we were in RobsSpeed Grimsby today and I was explaining to the missus why- the unique bevel gear valvegear drive arrangement....

As soon as I get her picked up, I'll bang some pics on gents, you can rest assured of that Crouchy - I've seen on RobSpeed's website before that he keeps getting the odd W in of late, same as Jem's over in Wakey - but they keep asking very strong money for them, a bit rich for my blood. However, when they advertise them, they're only for sale for a couple of days then they're gone! What sticks in my throat is that I bought mine for a whisker over £3k brand spanking new, and you'd be lucky to get anything half-presentable for that money these days... On the subject of the bevel drive, I do hope that you pointed out to your lady wife that that's a Ducati inspiration, and was meant to resemble a pushrod tube? And Carl... well, I had been contemplating having the snip done, but if I keep on like this I won't need to, my lady wife will do the job with a couple of house bricks and a rusty Stanley knife blade! You saw my mate who I was chatting to on FB last Fri over selling the SD, how out of the blue was that CB550?! That's the predicament I'm in, I've got quite a wide circle of very good like-minded friends, and I keep getting these once-in-a lifetime opportunities at the least convenient moment, and I have a strong disability to say the word "no"..,

https://www.bike-urious.com/wp-content/uploads/Kawasaki-W650-Right-Side.jpgIt looks just like that, but with the low bars as its a genuine UK bike ( ironically, my orig W looked exactly the same as this, but that was a German parallel import, it was only the EU imports that had the cow-horn American-styled bars) EDIT: image imbed from Google ain't worked... Just do a google for Kawasaki W650 Silver, and then click "images", and it's the same as the 2nd in that's next to a rustic brick wall

During times when my SDs were off the road, winter, wet summers, repairs, time pressures etc, I have still got a lot of pleasure out of maintaining and polishing them with my daughters in the garage. I could never be wit out a bike at this stage. As well as my SDs always keep at least one 125cc, I love the simplicity of them. The W650 and W800 are lovely, I would love to know how the W800 compares with the Bonnie, has anyone here had both ?

I've ridden a Bonnie, and it is a quicker bike, but the engine is a bit character-less, whereas the W's have a nice throb to em
