Hi folks, I bought a CB250N at an auction with the plan of registering it and restoring it to its former glory. A service and a bit of chrome work should see it sorted. My problem only showed up when i tried to register/apply for tax book. DVLA tell me they have no trace of the vehicle on their system anywhere. I only have the chassis number as the person who owned it died and the reg plate has gone missing. Is there anyway of tracing the bike through the chassis number as i am now going to have to apply for new registration ?

Dvla may have the number but only after a certain date when their computer system was first set up. If they haven't you can go through honda uk and get a dating letter from them (chargeable about 30 sovs) then re-apply to dvla after you have mot'd the bike. Is there no way any one would have the number?

No M8 I gave up searching. The family searched through photos and everything they had to try and find it. Nothing has appeared anywhere. My fear of course and the reason for trying to register it first was that,I have not been able to do any checks on the bike as to insurance/theft or the likes. The bike wasnt expensive but the remainder of the work will be.(the price we pay for reliving our youth)

Find the frame number, check this site and find which model it is, go on ebay buy frame and log book, paint up frame swap all bits over, simples!

I should have added offers as they are asking around 70 for frame, still worth a cheeky offer?

I had so much trouble from dvla lately i nearly gave up all my bikes! i have been fined by them for not sending a log book back when i did, i even went to swansea to argue the case and no-one would see me and i ended up having to pay! on christmas eve i received a letter stating i would have to get a letter from honda to register a bike that they lost the paperwork to,and my 400 sd needed a new frame and they said all they could do was stick it on a Q reg ffs! bunch of b*****ds!

This sounds like the best way to go great advice from jonnyboy & easy too loads of frames come up on eBay just make sure it's a sound one they seem to rot at the rear where rear mudguard fits

This rear rot saw the end of one of my bikes, as Richard said check frame thoroughly first also make sure the log book is correct and matches, you never know what some people will do.

Another reason for club status, we could generate age related paperwork and inform dvla of the bikes age etc and get number plates correctly issued.

Yes I agree club status would be a good thing but needs llot of time and expertise to do it properly, special tool hire, parts manufacture etc. too
