It just got a bit messy for a few seconds before realisation kicked in.
But an hour of waxing got it back to where we were if not better.
And the oil that I could not possibly not get to (maybe under tank etc) could be deemed rustproofing. It is no big deal really. I don't think I will lose sleep. Here is hoping.

One thing I forgot to say......my bins were off meaning I took a direct hit in my right mince pie.
Assuming as it was clean oil there would be no ill effects......so far so good. The right one is the best one....may it continue to reign supreme.

A slight bit of topic, I know a mechanic who graved a hydraulic pipe on a track machine to stabilize it as he attempted tl tighten the coupling nut. There was a tiny spray of hydraulic oil jetting out of a fracture in the pipe neare where it meets the coupler. It pierced his hand an injected hydraulic oil into his blood his arm got infected and swole up, the docs told him they might have to chop it off to save the remainder oc him but it recovered after weeks in hospital. I dont know about engine oil but I often heart to be very careful with hydraulic oil as it operates at lower temp then engine oil so bacteria in it dont get cooked. Seperately black engine oil is the best cure for ringworm on cattle in Ireland according to the partime farming guys in Ireland!

My 450 has been looking decidedly oily lately. I thought maybe she'd sprung a leak, or I'd not put the rocker cover gasket back on properly after doing the valve clearances. But no. Dickhead here had forgotten to re-connect the breather pipe to the rocker cover after doing the valve clearances last week. To be honest I'd've preferred to have noticed this BEFORE doing a 300-odd mile round trip to Corby, rather than AFTER. Whoops

I remember years ago holding a light for a mechanic poring oil into a large 6 cyclinder Cat D8 Bulldozer. We kept checking the dipstick but no sign of the oil coming up and we couldn't count the number of gallons we had already put in because we were filling it with a large diameter gravity fed pipe from a barrel. As the engine was huge we gave it the benefit of the doubt and kept putting in more. Eventually we ran out of oil and climbed down, to find a giant pool of oil under us. He had forgot to put in the bung!
