I remember either posting or reading a thread on here last year about the pros and cons of the Single Cylinder RS vs the Twin Cylinder N models. I have been looking for it but can not find it. Can anyone remember the pros and cons, I think the N looks nicer, nicer tank and better exhaust spacing but I like that the RS has a single carb, less maintenance. I think I remember some saying that the head or piston/cyclinder on the RS did not last as long, possibly reved higher or something like that, great if anyone can clarify that for me. I'm looking at an RS locally might do a swop for something.

The 250 single like the 125 can wear out its head/cam quite quickly if oil changes not made as they should be etc and heads/cams in good condition are not easy to find .
For me the RS was a bit small and not as "comfy" as the SD , lighter and probably more economical .

Thanks bojer, would that not be equally true for the twin cylinder SD, if it's oil changes were no done? Was there something in particular which made the RS more delicate than the N.

You'd think so but not sure why but the 125 OHC and 250 single both gave their cams/heads a hard time - that does not seem to happen with the SD - did with the G5 etc earlier twins - better oil supply ?
If its all good now and not rattling probably ok , I have had XR250s that used a lot of oil when getting old too - not burnt but just breathed out the airbox !
Kickstart only version ?

Yes scania,the heads do wear out if the oil isn't changed very regularly and they are prone to oil leaks on the heads as well. I ran a RSA the kicker model, for 13 years as a daily rider and loved it, they go really well,the 4 valve twin exhaust port head made them really pokey for a 250 single, if they have the twin silencers still on and not a two into one motad they sound good too. The early ones used to wear the rear sprocket bolt holes out and knacker the hub,they changed the design on the later electric start models to a cush drive setup like the sd and fitted them with an O ring chain which improved things a lot.
Get a decent pair of rear shocks and hagon fork springs and they handle really well,and being light you can sling them about with confidence.
The front brake caliper is very prone to seizing up, ok if used in dry weather only, otherwise regular strip downs are the order of the day.
Find a good one and you'll enjoy it I'm sure.

If you look on Ebay for CB250RS head there are none , 5 or 6 SD heads.......... The Rs was suggested by the mags at the time to be more "sporty" than the SD - largely due to its lighter weight/size

Probably got thrashed harder than the 250, bojer is right about an he 125, single and the rs heads, I have two heads from my tl 125 both with that heads worn to hell. Dave...

I suppose the cam profiles made the RS a bit revvier and prone to wear out if the oil changes weren't done regular.
