It'll always be on the register (this is a cat C).....but just out of interest (and assuming the frame is straight and it is worth doing) how much do you reckon it would cost to put this right again?

No no no mate.......I was just curious.
This bike sold for around 700 squid. Undamaged it would probably be worth 2.5k.......
My thoughts were that if you were to hang on to it for years as a commuter it would make economic sense to put it right and use it in all weathers.

Well i for one agree with you good idea, but i would want to check the frame for straightness, basically i would strip it down and rebuild it.

It's faired a lot better than the Bandit I had after I'd slung that down the road. Mind you, a car coming the other way ploughed into it which is probably what pushed it 'beyond economical repair' in my case lol
Check for paint cracking around the pillion footrests. Bandits have a nasty habit (more so on the earlier models) of having the pillion footpegs twist the rear subframe, and unlike the more 'premium' models (GSX-R's and so forth) you can't just unbolt and replace. They don't crash all that well to be honest.

Is that the older Bandit 600 oil cooled or the newer Bandit 650 water cooled, or some thing in between? It appears to have an oil cooler like the 600 but has the spiky tail like the 650 ! Either way the older 600 with the chrome side panels behind the carbs looks way nicer. That looks too modern looking for my taste.

The GSF650K5 (which appeared in 2005) were oil cooled much like the MK1 and MK2 600's. I think the water cooled 650's appeared around 2008.....with the K8 model? The engine looks different in appearance as well on the LC models - not as 'finned'.
These 650's are now starting to grow on me - was not keen at first and still dislike the lack of chrome clocks etc but I am beginning to like this model in this colour. There is a really really nice one currently for sale in Belfast on Gumtree - only 2000 odd miles from brand new. It could be had for £1900. If I was in the market I would get it bought over.

I wouldn't trust a tank in that condition, would have to be replaced, would not want a petrol spill on top of the engine. I would the say the frame is fine, was not a high impact crash, more of a scraping.

i'd be more worried about wether the crank has been pushed against it's bearings, look at the state of that end cover.
