So I've started my search, found a decent looking 400, a bit pricey I think (time of year perhaps??) seems in good condition, all running, electrics ok, apparently it smokes a little on start up but then this goes away, anything to worry about? (as I mentioned in my intro I am a mechanical noob so be gentle with me guys!) :-)

I was looking for a 400 superdream myself recently (missed one not far from me and under bid one down in swansea) and your right they are getting a bit thin on the ground and prices are slowly rising. the smoke issue could be a few different things (good to check the colour of the smoke) I'd suspect valve guide stem seals if it clears when warm, replacing them would probably cost a fair bit if you pay someone else to do it, but you could just live with it and keep a careful check on the oil level.

400s not as common but some nice ones around for a bit more money than the 250s.Look for one being sold privately by someone who’s owned it a while with bit of history old mot’s etc.keep your ear to ground don’t just look on Fleabay.Bit of smoke on start up I wouldn’t be concerned with.

They are out there...just got to look in all the deep and dark places....and with anything well kept and vintage you need some £££.
