Newbie to this forum but have been on a couple of other forums, having previously owned an XJR1300, a Honda 125 Varadero and the current steed, the CBR1100XX, oh yeah I had a Susuki X1 50cc Ped many moons ago too...(and I'd love to buy another one if anyone has one in the back of the shed..in any state of repair!)
Just aquired a '79 250 superdream as a bit of a project. It looks the part having had lots of shiny bits fitted by the previous owner but it runs badly. It's got some issues that I intend to resolve so I can ride it. The carbs have been fettled badly so thats my first priority, (sticky float valve on the left carb, and a ham fisted clean up). The airbox has been sawn in half and then stuck back together with cardboard and Mastic, so I've got a new one to install. The wiring loom needs tidying up a bit under the seat. The spark plugs were mismatched and one was faulty. The battery was flat and the connections loose. I suspect its got either the wrong engine in it, or its been painted black to hide the state of it but I'll dig into that later cos it does run. But all in all I can see the potential of this bike, and I will be taking my time restoring it, not to a concourse standard, but into a useable, reliable classic. (famous last words? probably)
I will try and put some pictures up of the bike soon. I will also try to be an active member of the forum, as i found lots of great mates from the XJR forum in particular, but also lots of help from the guys on the Blackbird forum. Hopefully you guys are all full of knowledge that I can tap into, and if I can return the favour, I'm happy to help. I'm no expert, but I'm not bad on the spanners. I'm based up near Doncaster if anyone is local to me, my kettles always on for a brew and to shoot the breeze if your passsing. I may even have seen some of you up at South leverton Bike nights. Theres usually a few Superdreams about there on a wednesday night..
