Cool, can use the multimeter to measure the voltage in that case. I would have checked it before plugging it in. As some parts do more harm than good.

Are we on about the rectifier or the starter diode? Surely you cannot get a rectifier for a tenner though!

Think the original Honda ones do last well , busy chaps those Chinese , a few years ago a reg/rec failure would mean taking a beating down your local Honda agent as there was no other option . Think I've got a couple in stock , and CDis , and one alternator , future proofing I call it , wife has other adjectives

Do have the Honda one but someone cut the plug off and I didn't like the look of the spade connecters that were put on

Have seen a thread of how to do this and voltages to expect. does anyone remember this? For a basic quick check , just set your meter on the 20v DC scale , check the battery volts with the engine off - 12.5v or similar , start up and check volts across the battery - should now see about 14.4V with a few revs up if all's well .

Being carful with my money went to Sainsbury's and bought two Sainsbury's 9v batteries for my multimeter. Waste of time not enough power to work. Flashes on with low battery sign then goes off. Have to buy a decent one . Well one tries

Surprised at that as meters aren't very demanding on batteries , mine's had the same battery for years ! Have you tested it for volts ?..........
