Fungo, big thumbs up for "not" chucking the tyre into a field, far to many unscrupulous people are up to that selfish business,my office is sometimes Salisbury Plain, you should see the crap people are dumping there! Mountains of it litrerally...
I also get what your all saying about small retailers, here locally we try to shop local as much as we can, helping to prop up our local chamber of trade in the process.
as a nipper on my first bike I would eagerly get down to the local independent bike shop/mechanic. Sadly it to soon went out of business a few years ago, they are truly very rare to see nowadays. My old local was great! I would turn up,often cold with a runny nose Etc. Old boy in shop would always produce a hot mug of tea and a funny comment to go with it......nothing was to much trouble for them, I look back now and realise I was probably stopping them from doing something that was far more important than looking after me, but they never let me feel as though I was being a nuisance I think they always had the last laugh any way cozy I was never aloud to leave without buying something! Even if I didn't really need it lol......good people wealth of experience I learnt allot from them.........oh how things have changed eh?
this is the state of things nowadays, and it really gets my goat!! I returned from a long trip from Spain back in September with a group of mates on bikes, I went on my zx10r, a couple of friends were on Triumph's, (newish ones). This got me thinking a bit when I got back, I love my 10r don't get me wrong I won't be parting with it anytime soon but, I was thinking about a new Speed Tripple R, 1050.... Now that's appealing to me in a big way if the funds are right!!! Then it might be possible (as well as the hunt for a project SD) 'black of course'.
recently I took a trip with a friend by bikes to a dealer, not a local independent they don't exist anymore remember? Anyhow, we rock up at a retail dealer chain shop showroom extravaganza thing! I park the 10r up against the front showroom window right were the salesman is sat, we exchange nods etc,"good start me thinks" of we go into the showroom, I'm feeling good coz I'm thinking about buying a new Speedy R I make my way towards the salesman with just the bike I am after next to his desk, as I walk towards him I say "hello mate"...........no responce from him, I wait and say it again......still no response!! In fact he gets up grabs his corporate cup and walks off! Me mate says maybe he didn't hear you?Mmmmmm I'm thinking. I see the bike I am after, so I wonder about having a closer look and have a sit on a possible new purchase.....I stop, looking at the seat there is a message saying "do not sit on bike" wots that all about eh? I am left stood in the showroom wondering if anyone cares to assist me!
meanwhile...the salesman walks passed still clutching his empty cup, I quickly blurt out that I am really interested in a new 1050r, he doesn't stop walking past but does say "oh yeah there nice bikes"...............he never comes back, not to me anyway, me mate starts to laugh and say's "what a plonker" I agree, we turn round, I'm feeling less than pleased, I won't be parting with any cash with these muppets, they've lost a sale from me! we never even got offered that hot mug of tea either!!!!!
On this occasion I new what I was after, some bike dealers obviously don't care
OR.......maybe Somersetdreamer will sell me his black 250na instead eh! Please?
