nick you would not put cheap chinese parts on your bikes but you use chinese tools to work on them.the smaller torque wrenches buy a good quality one.

As I suggested in my post Fungo, there are risks to using a torque wrench - use "feel," allow for the presence of lubricants on the thread and the leverage of the wrench which is generally longer than a simple socket set extension. I doubt you did anything wrong as such or indeed that the equipment was faulty. It is always possible to tighten further but rarely possible to back off once overdone...

Thank you Bugsy.
My intention is to do the bolt up tight......but with the aid of a bit of thread lock this time.

Nick, my Haynes says 9-13nm which is 6.6-9.5 ft/lbs for 6mm bolts.
The actual rotor bolt isn't listed in my Haynes but if you look at crankcase bolts that is where the above nm is listed for 6mm bolts. The 6 mm bolt on the cylinder head is even lower at 8-13nm
The above torques sound about right for 6mm bolts, much the same as Honda torque them at
If you use your torque wrench to tighten them do it very carefully as its a big wrench and they aren't easy to judge how near tight you are, ideally you need a smaller wrench ,say 5-25nm there is more feel with them and less chance of overdoing it.

Looking at the length of the bolt that is unthreaded, there is no resistance to turning there so the risk of excess torque shearing it is greater still I suspect. Work to the lowest torque value possible and as you say, use thread lock to provide security.

Well, if that is a six mm bolt you've been haynsed, no wonder it snapped, that torque is for 8mm bolts Nick.

Ive found that setting in my manual now Nick if it is a 6mm bolt I personally wouldn't go anywhere near as high as Haynes quotes
Is it a 6mm bolt or is it 8 mm
I know cms say it's 6-60 but is it? Have you measured it?
The torque Haynes quote is more like what it would be if it's an 8mm

Will use it as 3/8 socket ratchet from now on.....and will sling it when even that function gives up the ghost.
