I'm on a quest to wear my SD's tyres out looking for the (now not so common) classic red box's locally. Here's the first of many(hopefully) I will visit in the area. Its a K6 in use as a phone box still although it has an order posted on it that reports it's up for closure soon; unless the usual £1 is paid to adopt it by a local charity etc. Its in a village in East Hoathly BN8 6DR on the corner by the Kings Head Pub. I was lying in the road taking a photo when ta local lady asked me what I was doing? I gave her some excuse about a web forum and she nodded intelligently but in all honesty I think she had forgotten that the bright red box was still there, walking past every day but taking no notice of it. Its in need of a paint job but there it is...

There are types of design for the red (K) kiosk or boxes. The K6 was designed by "Sir Giles Gilbert Scott to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of the coronation of King George V in 1935" They are common and are the ones with the 8 rows of 3 panes per side. Enough of the data, which I might add was researched today thus I am not the K box geek I sound like. Lol.
As for the steroids? that's due to me laying on the road to take the photo risking life s limb...

Looking back through this thread they all need a coat of paint ,some of them need a glazier ,the sad thing is though that they are all destined for the scrap yard .There are currently 48 boxes in the Rotherham borough (not all red some are silver ) but they all have a notice in the window saying they will be removed ,it makes you wonder how kidnappers are going to give people the runaround befor delievering the ransom to the third bin on the left in the local park ,will they have to go on the dole instead

You can adopt them in their original position without the phone connection. There are scrap yards who trade in the already removed kiosks, at a profit of course. As for the 600lb cast iron red boxes in-situ witch remains to be seen what happens to them if nobody adopts them...? It's a red-tape nightmare where BT don't want them, the locals do want them but someone has to officially take full charge of the 'Elf'n'safety' . Ps. They all stand on a concrete plinth that's massive!

First run on the triumph this spring Not a Superdream, not a red phone box - and hardly a phone box at all, only 2 sides and no door and not a library book in sight (but there is a red post box)
