I was a member with 'THE ULTIMATE HONDA SUPERDREAM FORUM' as mikevfr, but didn't post for a long time and found I couldn't get back in, so by a very circuitous route I've arrived with your goodselves - I'm presuming you're the same bods and hope I haven't strayed inadvertently into some subversive alternative :0)

Thank you both. I've a 400nb 1981 a mate of mine bought new. It was well use and amongst other things toured Europe. A few years later he emigrated to America and it was put in his Dad's garage. I borrowed it for a short period in the late 80's, but it was returned to the garage and sat there for many years. A couple of years ago we cleared out the garage for his Dad and came across it. A home was needed and it was moved to my garage in Bolton. Unfortunately it needs rather more work than I'd anticipated to get it back on the road, but it limped to and passed(goodness knows how)it's MOT 18 mths ago. Brakes, forks, and head bearings are refurbished and it starts well with the new battery. Runs rough, so carbs are going to need a good clean and tyres and chain/sprockets are on order. It's never going to be concourse, because I like it's history written in the nicks, dints and wear marks, but I'm hoping to make it a reliable ride this summer.

Hi Mike, good to have you back. That's a nice piece of history with your SD.

Hi Mike, good to have you back. That's a nice piece of history with your SD. I know, at once a blessing and a curse. The cost of renovation can only be justified in emotional terms, so I'm having to go slowly and think practical rather than concourse! I think they used to call it 'oily rag restoration'. Speaking of which, I've just bought a pair of Maxxis from M&P and a chain and sprocket kit from eBay (item #141891975289). Hope they do the job.

I've yet to get a sprocket& chain kit for my 400N project, so I'd be interested what you think of the quality of that when it arrives.

Haven't fitted them yet so time will tell. I'm hoping to pick up a Scottoiler which extend chain life brilliantly so that should help too.
