One of the nuts Fungo so genourously gave to me
Same nut after I "refurbed" it on my little lathe
Started by facing the manky rusty hexagon/top off

Started with piece of Hexagon and sticking thread on end
Then made the round bit and screwed it all together, going to drill hole and fit dowel so it doesn't unscrew(used thread locker on it too) I used 27mm hexagon as that's all I have to hand but looks ok will match the other side up and Bobs yer uncle a shiny new pair of top nuts for free

Very good.
Quick question......when one tries to undo the new bolts now, will there not be a danger of just the hex part coming out on its own and the other part staying in the yoke / stanchion?

Nope as I will use Loctite Threadlocker on the threads (but as a precaution will drill hole through into thread and stick dowel in)

Know what you mean, bugger screw cutting the hexagon and the round bit not sure what grade it is,it's from a long bar I "borrowed" from past employment. My lathe is a Myford so not made for this sort of work and I can't cut metric threads, looking out for something little bigger and more versatile that would be able to handle it,couldn't use parting tool so took ages to hacksaw through lol

Very good then DFS. To the untrained eye they look very much as original. Well done.

Good job Dave, although the title of the thread is a little misleading, didn't stop us looking though

Good job Dave, although the title of the thread is a little misleading, didn't stop us looking though I know many think Fungo is nuts but having met him last week can confirm he isn't

Cutting Stainless Steel: I was told years ago that compared with mild steel one should use "Half the speed and double the feed". Worked well for me!
