Didn’t know Halfrauds been going that long or sold motorcycle gear that long ago,I remember they just sold pushbikes but now they know everything about what you don’t want to buy for your car when you want some motorcycle oil😁 They've been going since 189somethingorother. I worked for them for 11 years and have been on many courses at Redditch. The first shop was in Leicester but never started out as a retail shop. They were a wholesale ironmongers. The name comes from the street in Leicester that the shop was in, Halford Street. It was a young worker that put stuff into the window and people came in to buy it and that's how it took off.
When I worked for them, they had stopped doing bike stuff, it was just cars and pushbikes. I started in a high street store and there was loads of old stock. I got oil coolers, electric fan kits and rolls of flex for a few quid. Sold it all on for a good profit a few years later when I got a computer, internet and ebay!
Nowadays if you go in to buy a flippin' brake block they want to know the ins and outs of a ducks a*se! I give them any old rubbish.

When I was 6 coming back from town with my mum our bus home was outside Halfords me and my brother and sister used to pass the time doing a "Harry Worth on the corner of the window .That would be 62 and I remember seeing pudding basin helmets in that very window so they must have been selling bike gear even longer

I remember Wollies selling Moped, I remember seeing one a raised stand in the store, Tomos Mopeds, a bit of a cult item now I believe. The mother-in-law use to have one, bag a crap - the moped, I can't possible comment on the mother-in-law.

I think even I can recall that, possibly early to late 80s.

I only ever recall them in blue in our local Woolies and 'think' they were priced at £199.
I can even remember Woolies when the used to test light bulbs when you bought one. The girls taking the money were in the middle of the counters back then.
