Superdream went in for her MOT on the 23rd, thisis a bike I've had since 2005 and has more than a few previous notes on it
So I get a phone call at work telling me that the frame is bent, which is slightly concerning as I have never dropped it
The assumption is that every MOT it has had has been moody. The big question is do I have the dealership move everything from one frame to another, which they advise will take 5 hours, or take it back to Leicester for anotehr moody MOT...

Shame but might explain why you said it didn't handle ?
Frame swap is going to be pricey , if you go ahead make sure its not internally rusty in the back "limbs" that go to the rear mudguard . 5 hours labours sounds reasonable to me - depending on rate could be a goer ?
Might be "cheaper" to just get another and use yours for parts ?

If it was mine I'd check the wheel alignment then take it to another test station. Some of them are overzealous in my opinion. If its been OK in previous MOT's and you haven't dropped it, wheel alignment could have altered when you've adjusted the chain tension.

Simple solution would be another moody MOT in Leics. If it is a workhorse and hasn't been an issue in ten years, where is the problem? Let Phil and Grant MOT it again and again until she is properly dead.

Thank you lovely people. I've been bit moody reagrading it for the last couple of days. It was topped of by the rear sprocket sent by M&P not having the same lip on it as the one that came off the machine so it doesnt fit!
I do have a CB400N frame (I used to buy bulk parts on eBay because I needed one thing off of it) so it is viable, but around £300 in labour.

hi kal,i'd be tempted to go with what the others have suggested and try another test station after checking your wheel alignment again as you havent dropped the bike and had no issues before.if it becomes a problem maybe you could ask about on here if anyone near you can help you out with the swop over?

If its a 250 I would not go swapping everything over to that as having a 250 engine in a 400 frame (although they are they same except for the frame number) is going to cause a lot of bother if you want it all 'legal'

I guess that with the "new" computerised MOT system as soon as a station logs the bike on they can see it's failed and on what , that may well make them cautious as they won't want a VOSA investigation.....
Is the missing sprocket "lip" just the internal mounting bush that could be swapped from the old sprocket ?

Take it to an established MOT tester, not a modern bike type place and if it flags up with the previous fail say "yeah load of bollox the wheels were out of line after I adjusted chain, all ok now as you can see"

If frame is no good they are cheap on eBay just make sure not rotted out, & then give yourself a few weeks to swap it all over yourself at no cost just a lot of oily hands & swear words it's quite a lot to do but fun & there will be help from this forum if you get stuck

There's good abd solid reasons I don't do my own spanner work. I can strip a superdream I just can't put it back together. Some people have a gift, some of us shouldn't be trusted I've spent the last few weeks trying to make a decision on it. Now it's been pointed out the alignment is obvious. I've been trying to decide whether I scrap the little beastie and buy a replacement or throw some serious money at it. I'm thinking serious money, and get the other issues dealt with too.

It's always tricky to know which is best, persevering with a 'problem' bike, or giving up & starting again with another. One thing with SDs though, they're fairly easy to take apart & put back together if you don't have to delve into the engine. I'm sure you could do it kal, and there would be plenty of help on here. Whichever way you go, good luck!

I've managed to shuffle her into the backyard.
The current plan involves getting a shed next month to strip it into
Even now it makes me smile too much to give it up
