I've had two CB250T Dreams and regretted selling them both. They both had some personal history for me, and now that I've found this forum, I can share it with you.
The first one was only a year old when I bought it and being in perfect condition it cost me £565.00 from a dealer's showroom . It was my only means of transport and I didn't have a garage, so a couple of British winters downgraded the finish! It felt like a bigger bike than it actually was (probably the big bulbous tank!).....
I managed to get myself a six month ban (accumulation of points for not displaying L-plates). In those days you went to court when the points added up to a ban, and with the ignorance of a youngster I rode there and stood in front of the judge with my BLJ on and helmet in hand. He banned me and asked if I'd ridden my bike to court. I said no, I was getting a lift. He knew I was lying and reminded me of the consequences of riding with a ban. I waited two hours until I felt brave enough to ride home. Bike stayed in my mum's garage for the 6 month ban. During this time I met a very active young lady, and we both decided that a car would be better for those 'activities' so I sold the bike.
The girl didn't last, and I was bikeless, so I bought another Dream, but this one had seen better days.....
Kept it for quite a few years, and during this time I met my wife. In fact we had our first meal out together on this bike - a Chinese takeaway with the top box being our table. How romantic!!! We also rode down to Bournemouth on this bike in a bitterly cold January to meet her parents. Anyway, I didn't much like how plain the bike looked so set about transforming it. I had this idea of making it into a mini-cruiser/tourer type bike and this is how it ended up.....
By this time I was married and we had our first house, so I was able to do the work in our lounge. The house stank of oil and petrol, and not surprisingly it was the first and last time I was allowed to have a bike indoors!! When It was completed I decided to call it Bronze Wing, as Honda's Gold Wing was around 1,000cc and the Silver Wing was 500cc, so it seemed apt for my transformed 250cc Dream! I kept this one for some years but eventually it packed up on and could not be revived, so was disposed of.
The 250T Dream was a sluggish bike compared to the other 250s of the time, and was generally unloved. It's swift replacement by the 250N Superdream transformed its fortunes, but the Superdream never really did it with me (I'm a sucker for the odd and unloved, and the Superdream was neither of those!). The Dreams hold a bucketful of memories for me, which is why I am looking for another one, preferably already restored in original condition.
Hope I haven't bored you with all this.
