Hi y2blade, welcome along. I'm sure the stuff you've ordered will work, but soldering would be better. I've done a couple now & it's not too difficult & should last as long as the rest of the tank!

I have got this obsession with finding my old superdream and was an NC like yours but currently I think I would stand more chance finding the Holy Grail. Mike.

Hi. I've never tried waterweld but I've tried another epoxy putty and it didn't work. I'd admit that could be down to my hurrying the job too much though or possibly even another pinhole coming through, in the end I just found a decent second hand tank although I kept the holed one and might try a repair sometime. I did test the putty by making a little ball of it and leaving it for several weeks immersed in petrol. It did not break down at all.

That might be where I went wrong with mine. I tried to do an invisible repair so sanded it down and then painted over. I will try again sometime as tank is good otherwise. I hope you get some good miles in on it this year.

I hope you get some good miles in on it this year. I drained the tank and laid it on it's side then dried the bad area using a warming lamp then masked around the area (to eliminate any damage to the original decals) before starting then got all the loose flakey paint off a with a small scraper, then sanded it all back with 80grit (very coarse) paper, then cleaned the area with panelwipe (paint prep cleaner/degreaser) to give the waterweld something to really get hold of. It was all still bone dry when I checked it just now before leaving for work. Very happy, next job is to re-cover the seat as it is badly split

Update: have been using this a lot, really nice little thing to run about on. Fuel tank repair is still bone dry so very happy with that.
I have not got round to getting the seat recovered yet, tempted to have a go at doing it myself tbh.

hello you would be better off with a tank lining agent. your tank is rotting from the inside out.there are some good products out there, have used them myself it will sort the leak and the rust you will not damage the outside of the thank and stop rust getting into your carbs, you do not want that
