My 400NA is around that age although registered in March 1981.
My gut is that she was sitting at the dealer (Slocombes of Neasden) for around six months before Mr Parsons bought her.......By March '81 the 400NB's were hitting the show rooms.
I'd go with drab olive.

Mine was registered in July 1980 and they were bright zinc.

From memory I'd go with zinc too, although it's been many years since I saw any new ones.

An odd one are the chain adjusters on my CB400NA.
According to CMSNL my chain adjusters were the black looking ones (drab olive) as per its VIN.....but I got a close up of a picture of when I first owned her (bought from original owner with just 3k on the clock) and they are clearly chrome.
Just goes to show, the parts diagrams are not always 100% correct.

I have two or three different types of finishes on chain adjusters, i have shiney chrome, matt chrome and zinc plated. these have come with the machines and have either come as new or are aftermarket parts. Personally i have gone with shiney finish (coz i am easily bought with shiney things) lol!

Yep! All the parts i have will be blasted, painted or plated and put away in a sealed container in the garage. Those seat catches in the picture were the rustiest parts i had and after blasting they came up good and are soon to be plated.

I was sure the colour of the adjusters didn't change until the B models though, but of course that's all 30 years or so ago and my memory is not what it was.

You could be right. They also had that ickle chain wear decal on the LHS when they 'went black'. I bet you enjoyed your job? I know I would have.
