Looking to kit out the garage with a new toy and have been thinking about getting a compressor.
Any suggestions as to what to go for?
Got about £120 but can spend more if its going to make a big difference...
Doesn't need to be portable or come with tools etc...

depends on what you are gonna run off it. i had a sealey 3hp and i managed to blow it up (cabinet sand blaster) get a belt drive so if the motor goes pop its easier to replace, my old one was direct drive and a new motor was £30 shy of what i paid for the compressor.

It depends what you're looking to do with it? If you're spraying, look for something with a minimum of 10CFM, ideally more. You'd then need to pair it up to a HVLP (High Volume, Low Pressure) spray gun. Not cheap though...
If you're not interested in spraying much, and just want it to operate windy tools, then anything rated at 3+ HP should be ok. But read the specs - the max PSI it can put out will only be in a short burst; it's the PSI it can put out consistently that you need to check. And then cross-reference that with the PSI requirements of the windy tools you're thinking of using.

All good food for thought. Would like one that does most things well and as I say I don't mind spending more, would rather get the right one now instead of being lumbered with one that initially impresses but is found lacking... If you catch my drift...

If I were you, I'd look for a well looked after 2nd hand top-spec jobbie, as oppose to a brand-spanker. You may even get a few windy tools thrown in too
