Went out on me bestie for first proper ride and it seems to go ok,me knee is bending more must be the warm tropical weather lol.I seem to be getting 9mph/1000 rpm sounds about right?I started riding as if it was a big bike but bearing in mind it's a 250 can understand why it is gutless unless I rev it hard,it wasn't made for an old git with a sylph like 16 stone like me so slightest gradient/ headwind requires a downward gear change.Changing up clutchless typical Honda brakes ok ish but have to get used to using rear brake too.The bike is a 1983 deluxe and it was only used for a year and then stored,it has never been MOT'd and not taxed either since the first year will put some piccies up when I get chance, not immaculate but it seems all original except exhaust which is pattern not sure about front mudguard being original and had to rob front caliper off me "tatty" bike to go for ride.Am pleased with the way it goes but don't know if I'll keep it or not, have a date for the new knees next month and will see how things are post op ie comfort on a small bike.Lovely day today did 40 miles may take the Hardley out later if I can get another pass out,Newark classic bike show tomorrow but rainy day wonder if there will be any SD's there?

May be worthwhile putting some new front brake pads in; it may still be on the originals, and friction materials are better than they were 30-odd years ago. Never had any issues with the brakes on mine, and very rarely use the rear stopper - but, mines a 400 with twin calipers up front of course...

That's a pretty good description of the 250 performance- you really have to keep it spinning to make progress and use the gears. 6 pretty close ratios sort of dictates using the box a lot anyway. When riding the 250 I find I only use 6th when I've got to the speed/situation I want to be at- very much an overdrive at that sort of power.
I'm not a great user of back brake normally, but do find it useful (necessary!) on a SD.....

Looks okay, Dave.
I think something weird has occurred with the pic, you may need to edit so they all appear.
Is she on a W plate ?

That looks a nice tidy bike I must admit the extra cc,s make a difference on the 400 but I like the way the 250 gets upto say 60mph , both great bikes I reckon !

Know what you mean nod nod wink wink lol. didn't think of one of those is it a 250 or a 305? Massimo Laverda liked the engine design of it.Yes will keep the SD original as I can but need the exhaust at least silencers it has the original collector box the seat has a small tear but I have a new cover but it has HONDA in white at back so assume it's not right for 1983,it will be my bumbling round country lanes bike and maybe enter it in a show or two.The pictures are kind to it small dent in tank and few scratches brothers mate would spray it but need decent/correct decals. Will get the surgery out of way and will be ready for spring so next year may do the SD want to caff race my XS650 this year.Sounds like we have similar tastes in bikes you must be an old duffer like me Mark
