Yessir, thats my baby! It all started on 2nd of May when this listing (EBay item number: 131178688584)appeared. I saw it while having brekky and made a note to ring the seller as soon as I got in that afternoon. By the time I got back it had been sold-GUTTED! I have a search constantly running on Yakaz for a CB400NC and a fortnight later I got a notice from them drawing my attention to a Gumtree ad from Stoke on Trent listing a Black Nc - it was the same bike but now all repaired and ready to go - for only twenty five quid more than it was sold for as a Cat C write off.A phone call to the seller ,then one to the local van hire company and the next day my brother,me and "jane" the trusty sat-nav set off for SoT. The bike was just as good as I had expected ,very clean (as in dusty but in nice fettle) and complete with all the NC specific bits -gold wheels and forks, correct 399cc engine, twin pot calipers etc etc.It was even actually rather smart, with what looked like a fresh coat of gloss black paint that fortunately had not suffered to much damage in the theft and light crash ( the DVLA later informed my that it was actually a cat D - cosmetic write off,not a C -finacially not viable to repair). There were a few "issues",the seller,Kev-top bloke! had fitted straight "drag-bars"and ,not realising that the NC needs a different ignition switch to other Superdream models, had butchered a brand new pattern switch in an attempt to make it fit (which he couldnt) so it was tie-wrapped to the headlamp mount . The bike also had a brand new front master cylinder,a nice polished alloy affair but completely wrong for this bike,no mirrors, cobbled together foot-rests,a battered dash board fitted with the wrong clocks and horrid mini indicators-that didn't work.Unfortunately the ,apparently, new stainless Motad zorst had taken a bit of a beating in the tumble and looked worse for wear. All these little niggles aside it still is a strikingly smart bike, and on start up the engine sounded sweet and eager and it rode like a good un! 400 sovs and a hand shake later and it was into the Transit and home. While a few more issues came to light eg; the loom was routed all wrong, the main part was between the carbs and under the but steering yolk meaning it was a clear 12" short of reaching the backlights, rather than look and work out the problem, whoever was fixing the bike up decided that common sense solution was to hack the wiring about and twist bits of wire together to extend the wiring loom, needless to say,non of the back lights,or indicators operated . In fact when the switch was set for "i am turning right" the front right and rear left indicators flashed together! The correct ign switch proved elusive but a post on the old forum had loads of suggestions, finally culminating in a used but good one being bought on German ebay for 23 quid inc p&p.Ebay DE also provided a new full loom, for 32 quid posted,a pair of new repro pillion pegs. My extensive spare parts stash ( dont get excited Fungo, they are not NOS, just OS!)provided really nice chrome headlamp mounts,a really good seat base(about to be recovered using a beautiful repro cover from the USA)lots of nuts and bolts from my "SD Bits" biscuit tin, a pair of repro mirrors and a mint electric gubbins mounting plate.SOORY GOT TO GO BUT WILL FINISH TMORO Nix

Sorry for the prolonged break,I couldn't find where I had left this thread- I am not well you know! Over the past few weeks I have gradually replaced bits and pieces which is fantastic as every day the bike gets a bit better. I had a long wait (2 months ) for the log book, the guy I bought the bike from had applied but somehow the application had gone wrong. I think the problem was because the bike was bought as a Cat C write-off and ,as such, the replacement log book is free as the insurance co destroy the original when the bike is deemed written off. It transpired that it was actually a cat D which meant that it required payment for the replacement as it should have remained with the bike not been destroyed.£25 and two weeks later new V5 arrived. It also turned out that the bike has a current MOT cert til 10th nov too!!! The pic above is of the bike on its first run,it wasn't until I had set off that I realised that the side panels were at home in the bedroom!(Nothing weird-I was just using a hairdryer to remove the nasty red vinyl stickers). I found a pair of bars from the bandit which are very similar to the standard Honda bars,so on they went,a full set of new indicators from (I think)M&P £45 inc p&p,Stevellew kindly furnished me with a nice set of clocks removed from his Bobbed NC,I also got a nice fuse box (£7 eBay UK).A pair of correct NC perforated discs came from na44 and I just netted an as-new lefthand switch cluster from Ebay (just need a matching red lettered, red start button one for the right side now) to replace the one on the bike that was very faded, but works fine.I just found a forgotten rear metal mudguard which is in mint condition save having two extra holes in it where different winkers have been mounted (I bought a set of winkers from eBay de last year and they showed up fastened to this lovely mudguard and a pair of headlamp mounts in excellent condition, price £12!!!!!) I fitted the new USA sourced seat cover to a base that came from Germany, along with a huge box of parts from a seller called Old Harley 883,these bits have gradually been getting used on my three Superdreams and were without doubt one of my best buys ever! I mean a REALLY nice tank for £8,FVQ dampers in excellent order £11 the pair, two non standard silencers £8,gen Honda down pipes in great condition a whacking £13! One of the best things about having far too much "stuff" and being old and forgetful is that every now and then you un-earth a forgotten bit at just the right time. It also has the disadvantage that when I am looking for a specific part more often than not I have no idea where it is,like at the moment when I cannot for the life of me think where I have put the nice shiny 250 disc needed for the big twin disc conversion I am about to do on the 250! I bought my NC "blind" and am so happy with it. It has been my "dream" to own one since I first saw the revised Haynes Manual with the black NC on the cover. In fact,a few of you may remember I actually bought Sh*nes bike last year ,but he changed his mind on the day I was going to collect it. I am still scarred by that!!!!Excitement then misery all in one phone call!! While I see this bike as a keeper I still want to ride it so it wont be getting a concourse renovation,I want it to look standard (am just in the process of assembling the necessary bits to get her back on standard twin exhausts)but originality is secondary to usable and reliable. I am lucky that almost all the vital NC bits are present or have been found, the winter will be spent replacing, refinishing and restoring bits and pieces on the bike, but for the moment while the sun shines (not today unfortunately)the little black beast is going to get ridden! Cheers Nix
